Subject: Javelina Thank You

Jim,

Time slipped away from me a bit with all of our other events, but I did want to send you and your team a sincere thank you and wrap up for once again supporting the Javelina Jundred. We were able to donate close to $8,000 this year to the park thanks to your assistance over the long race weekend. It is a great relief to us as race organizers to have such an experienced team of amateur radio operators placed around the race course, available to serve at a moments notice anyone in need. I know this year was challenging with the weather and the fact that there were other events going on the same weekend, but I think everything went fairly well. With the growth and enthusiasm of the event, we are now the 3rd largest 100 mile trail race in the country behind the Leadville 100 in Colorado and the Western States 100 in California.

We look forward to having you with us in the future. Next year's race will fall on October 27-28, 2012.

Sincerely,

Jamil Coury

MCECG SUPPORTS 5 EVENTS DURING ONE WEEKEND!
10/20/11 - KE7EJF - Dennis Bietry

This past weekend a record 5 public service events were supported by MCECG. Those events ranged from a walk through the Phoenix Zoo, walks around Rawhide and Mid-Western University, a trail run through Estrella Mountain Park and a 30 and 70 mile bike ride around North Scottsdale, Rio Verde and Fountain Hills.

Over 4000 participants were watched over by 51 hams who volunteered to monitor their health and welfare as they participated in their selected events. Most of those hams had to be at their venues before o’dark thirty and some had to put up with ADOT trying it’s best to make it difficult to get to some of the venues. Also, some of those hams even drove several hundred miles supporting their event.

A big thank you to all of the hams who helped this past weekend, thanks to the general amateur community who stood by while we coordinated talk in and worked events on some repeaters and simplex frequencies and of course, thanks to the ARA for letting us use their repeaters.

You wonder why we do these events and take on so many? Ask any of the hams who did it this past weekend.

Sign up now for your opportunity for real hands on experience.
